As You Like It
Set in Occupied France, circa 1940, As You Like It follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncleโs court, accompanied by her cousin Celia and Touchstone, a motley fool, to find safety and, eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden. The wit and romance play out against the disputes of a divided pair of brothers, Orlando and Oliver who also escape to the pastoral forest, home to a peaceful Resistance and exiled duke. In Arden, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, notably the melancholy traveler Jaques, always observing and disputing the hardships of life in the country.
